Who is the Aurora EDI Alliance?
For next few newsletters, we will be doing short bios on each Aurora team member. For this one, we are featuring David Aird, one of our amazing tech support specialists.
David took an interesting journey to find his way into the EDI industry. The story begins in Texas, where he was happily running a successful pawnshop. His wife however, had a desire to move out of Texas. She had suggested several places that interested her, but David did not share the same interest in relocating. It wasn’t until they spent a week in Reno, that he found himself saying that he could see himself living in Reno. They came back the following year to ski again and to gauge the employment opportunities in the pawnshop field. He found himself with several job offers and they made the move to Reno that following summer.
After the arrival of their two children (Amanda and Jack), David was finding it difficult to put in the long hours required at the pawnshop. Realizing that he needed to be home more with his family, he decided to start down a new career path and took a job at a small company called EDI Support, Inc. (ESI), which later was acquired by Aurora Technolgies. Even though this was a new field for David, he found the work interesting and challenging. When David isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with his busy family. He also enjoys starting projects of all kinds. Like many of us, he doesn’t always finish all of the projects he starts. Just ask his wife about that. Currently, he is working on improving his golf game and he is also trying to find time to re-ignite his passion for home brewing.

Blog Highlight: Why We Love Liaison's Delta/ECS Data Integation Package
Nowadays, there’s all kinds of products that have multiple uses. My new favorite kitchen gadget is a flexible spatula/spoon sometimes known as a spoonula, that scraps, stirs, flips and is heat resistant. Not any ordinary spoon from the dollar store, you need to pay a little more, but I use this spatula/spoon ALL the time. Why am I talking about kitchen tools? Just like in the kitchen, we all want an EDI software package that can do more than one thing, that is…more than just translate EDI data.
For the purpose of the article, I will be writing under the assumption that the reader has an EDI background. In our industry, we have to anticipate many complicated scenarios. What happens if a trading partner...read more.
Aurora Partners with Aspen Systems, Inc.
When Aspen Systems, Inc., a fellow Liaison partner, decided to put their focus on integrating their Canopy ERP system, which targets food manufacturers/distributors, with Liaison's Delta/ECS, they reached out to us to see if we could help their clients with VAN services. We were more than willing to partner with them. This frees them up to concentrate on their clients' integration requirements and leaves the VAN piece to us, which is a big part of our business. Working with the folks over at Aspen as well as their clients, has been a pleasure and we look forward to a long and healthy partnership with them.
Technical Terminology Time
SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) - SFTP is a file transfer protocol that allows organizations to transfer, manage and access data in a secure SSH data stream. In most cases, when connecting to a VAN, the VAN will only accept either SFTP or AS2. Both are secure methods for transmitting data. The functionality between FTP and SFTP are similar but each uses different protocols, therefore a standard FTP client cannot communicate with an SFTP server.
